The dungun tree, known in English as looking-glass tree (heritiera littoralis) grows in mangrove swamps. It is believed that Dungun was opened by settlers from Pagar Ruyung, Sumatera. As the area was a swampland filled with dungun trees it was named Dungun.

TOPONOMI
