TOPONYMY
“Rembau” is named after a “Merbau Tua” tree. This tree is significant to the people once upon a time due to its extraordinary size. The tree was so huge that it was able to act as a canopy to 10 villages. To illustrate how huge the Merbau Tua tree was, the locals described that it took the villagers a month to cut down the tree; and the base of the tree was as big as 12 food trays. The fallen tree trunk was so long that it could reach Sungai Ujung. This version of Rembau’s toponymy was obtained from http://halaqah.net/v10/index.php?topic=1387.0. There was no mention on how the phrase “Merbau Tua” changed to become “Rembau”.

TOPONOMI
Tiada cerita pula bagaimana “Merbau” ditukar menjadi “Rembau”.
