TOPONOMI

TOPONYMY
There is no exact literature that explains how Tangga Batu gets its name. However, what is significant about this place is the outstanding number of Melaka traditional houses. Despite being houses that are built with wooden planks, the steps (tangga) that act as the entrance to the house via the verandah is made of bricks (batu). This is indeed the unique identity of traditional Melaka houses. The brick steps are decorated with colourful brigh- coloured tiles with multiple patterns, probably to signify the house owner’s warmth in welcoming his guests.
