TOPONOMI

TOPONYMY
The name Bukit Katil has been used ever since the British colonisation (Riqq Green, 2012). According to a community chief (i.e., Sidang) of Kampung Bukit Katil, Abdul Ghani Maarof, 63, the toponymy of Bukit Katil that he knows of was gathered through the words of mouth that has been passed from one generation to another. Based on what was narrated to him, earlier settlers of the place stumbled across a water container that looks like a labu sayong at the top of the hill. Known as batil, this water container that was made of gold was situated on a rock that looks like a bed. This incident led the place to be named as “Bukit Katil”, to commemorate where the gold water container was found.
