The second part its name, ‘Kerian’, refers to the kerian tree, which is a type of tropical tree that can be found in many parts of Southeast Asia (7crew, 2010). Another popular origin of the name comes from the imagery of a large mass of kerian trees in the middle of a lowland paddy field; when the view is observed from afar, it looks as if though there is an island floating amongst the paddy (Sekngucing, 2009).
