TOPONYMY
Jalan Bangsar was previously known as Sungai Puteh. It was named ‘Jalan Bangsar’ by Haji Abdullah Hukum, a merchant from Kerinchi, Sumatera and a major icon who contributed to the development of Kuala Lumpur in the late 19th century. After Haji Abdullah Hukum established Kampung Sungai Puteh, many ethnicities including Malays, Chinese and Indians cultivated the land and built a road to facilitate the transportation of produce to the market in Kuala Lumpur. Haji Abdullah named the road 'Bangsar', which in Kerinchi dialect means ‘ethnicity’, to signify the unity of the three races.

TOPONOMI
